Afribeads: ethically produced jewellery made from recycled paper

Afribeads jewellery is individually handmade in Uganda from strips of recycled paper cut into triangles and rolled into beads, then varnished, before being strung together into a unique range of necklaces, bracelets and earrings. We love the vibrant colours of this jewellery.

The jewellery is made by a group of women in Kampala, Uganda, known as the Kind Mother’s Project. The Kind Mother’s Project began in 2005 as an association of 8 Ugandan mothers who felt touched by the plight of children living in poverty in their country. Mothers in the Kind Mother’s Project earn income from making handcrafts which the sell in the local markets in Kampala. This income allows them to provide for their families and send their children to school.

Afribeads was established in 2009 by Australian Rosemary Frank to support sales of their products worldwide. Afribeads is a member of the Fair Trade Association (NZ and Australia).
